Hey Jonas Kamber — thanks for your response, and no need to apologise for disagreeing! I’m always interested in hearing others thoughts and opinions on this.
If your hourly rate accurate represents the value provided, then perhaps that is OK as your getting paid what you deserve based on the value you provide.
Personally I’ve had experiences where I’ve found that I was financially punishing myself for being efficient or quick when I charged hourly.
What I mean is:
As I get better at my craft, I naturally become more efficient at producing my work. This often means I can complete it faster over time. If I charged hourly that would mean that over time I’d be earning less as I would be working quicker — even though the value I’d be delivering would be more (as my skills would be increasing over time).
Of course you can combat this with increasing your hourly rate over time as your skills and value increases, but I’ve found this is harder said than done. Convincing recurring clients to pay you more than before can be a challenge!
Thanks for sharing :)
